1/2 The Missa Solemnis with Thielemann

I know I only posted a live concert of the Missa Solemnis just a few weeks ago by the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, but the Missa just seems to fit a New Years Weekend...this one is conducted by Christian Thielemann...another great performance of a sublime work, difficult to execute and but a joy to listen to....it's really incredible that TWO complete performances of this ridiculously hard work to organize is on Youtube!

"The monumental score of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 'Missa solemnis', Op. 123, includes the composer’s inscription 'From the heart – may it return to the heart'. Shattering contemporary notions of sacred music, the focus of the work is the concluding "Agnus Dei", which Beethoven intended as a dramatic 'plea for peace, both within and without.' " (from website)
